Why Blog Now?

I have tried on and off to blog for years and have never consistently posted. The main reason for this really was not as much a lack of discipline and content as it was lack of purpose. There are so many blogs out there, right? What in the world do I have to say that someone has not already said, much better than I ever would?

Well, I think the time has come to start consistently blogging. The goal is to post three times a week. Currently, I have three posts ready and scheduled each week until Jan 2021. Posts will fall into three broad categories:

  1. Leadership- Ministry leadership and spiritual formation.

  2. Mission- Church planting, missiology, disciple-making, and evangelism.

  3. Life - Life, marriage, and family.

The plan is to prepare six months out, posting three times a week, while posting some random life, leadership, and mission posts reflecting current events.

Why now, and what do I hope to accomplish?

  1. AGE. I am 48 years old, two years from the big 5.0. I don’t know if I have anything new to say, but I have a different perspective in saying it with years behind me in ministry, life, and leadership. Age has been sanctifying for me; the older I get, the more dependent I become to Jesus; truly apart from Him, I can do nothing. By God’s grace, these years of ministry, life, and leadership have made me a wiser servant of Jesus.

  2. TIMING. Someone once asked me when my kids were very young if I would consider writing a book on parenting, I responded, “Absolutely not, there is still too much time for something to go wrong, what we are doing might not work.”  Seven years ago, the time was not right. I was in a new job, a new city, and adjusting to a new forever family. I am starting my 8th year in New Orleans, my kids are growing up, and Joy and I are entering our 19th year of marriage; more than ever before, there is a peace that the timing is right.

  3. EXPERIENCE: I tell people often, I probably cannot write a book on what to do, but I can write a bestseller on what NOT to do. After years of ministry experience, by God’s grace and sometimes painful sanctification, I am a little wiser than when I started, which I prayerfully hope ministers to others as I share through this blog.

  4. STEWARDSHIP: 28 years of ministry can give you a lot of content. Over the last three decades, I have journaled consistently, preached through a lot of the Bible expositionally, and led a conference or two on leadership, coaching, marriage, and parenting. Over the last ten years, I have produced a significant amount of coaching material on spiritual formation, leadership, soul care, missional engagement, church planting, and marriage and family. Blogging is good stewardship that will allow me to serve others with free resources and content.

Don’t worry, I won’t be automatically signing you up if I have your email, this is voluntary and free subscription. My prayer is that the contents of this blog would help you love God, lead well and live the gospel. To get this weeks ’s upcoming posts subscribe here.
